JUST THE WHISKEY TALKING
Words and Music By Sam Creigh
Sam Says: The man in this song has a very serious problem with alcohol addiction, and there appears to be little if any will power on his part to make a recovery, at least at the present time. This is a very sad situation that is not uncommon in many families throughout the world, no matter what the addiction. Helping a loved one who is unable or unwilling to help himself is mostly a fool's errand.
Well, baby, here I am again--down on my knees again
Begging you to take me back just once more
And as you listen to me promise not to hurt you anymore
It's just the whiskey talking and you've heard it all before
Same old worn-out speech again--word for word, start to end
All about how a new man is gonna walk through this door
But the new man never comes 'cause the old man never goes
It's just the whiskey talking and everybody knows
Just the whiskey talking--speaking loud and clear
Telling me how many a poor fool has lost his way in here
So I just pour myself a stiff one--and sit back in my chair
'Cause when I'm talking to my whiskey--I just don't have a care
'Cause when I'm talking to my whiskey--I just don't have a care
